Five artists vie to create work for Zoo Boise

Published: October 6, 2012

Proposals on public view: See them at Boise City Hall through Tuesday, Oct. 9, then at Zoo Boise Oct. 10-19. Comments from the public will help the selection panel decide the winner. Comments can be left at City Hall or Zoo Boise. By Monday, you should be able to see the proposals and post comments online at boiseartsand-history.org.

44 Idaho artists applied: A panel chose the five finalists. The art at the zoo will commemorate the 50-year relationship between Friends of Zoo Boise and the city of Boise.

The finalists? Robert Carter, metal sculptor; Reham Aarti, mosaic artist; Marcus Pierce, painter; Stephanie Inman, architect/designer/painter; Rachel Teannalach, painter.

Up to $40,000 is available for the project: City staffers anticipate that two to four works, each under $24,000, will be commissioned.

City Hall art: The city also has put out a call for a two-dimensional visual work featuring Boise to hang behind the dais in the council chambers. The selected work will be photographed at high resolution and blown up to 8 feet by 5 feet. Deadline for artists to apply is Nov. 1.
