Daniel Garz and Emmett host Kuna on Thursday.

Charlie Litchfield — For the Statesman

Kuna at Emmett

The winner takes over sole possession of fifth place in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference, as both teams are tied with 2-3 league records. Quarterback Daniel Garz, above, and Emmett hope to get back on track after suffering three straight losses. Kuna is coming off a 34-33 upset of Columbia last week.

Centennial at Boise

Centennial’s season seems to be on the upswing. The Patriots lost their first three games, but have since won two in a row and enter this game tied with Boise for sixth in 5A SIC play. Centennial has benefited from a defense that has limited opponents to 20.8 points per game — second best in the conference. Meanwhile, Boise’s promising 2-0 start has hit the brakes with three straight losses.

Timberline at Vallivue

With their postseason hopes dwindling, both teams are playing for pride — and to avoid finishing at the bottom of the 5A SIC. Vallivue nearly pulled off a big upset of Eagle last week before a fumble on the Eagle 10-yard line with about 2 minutes to play put the ball back in Eagle’s hands. Both teams rank at the bottom of the conference in scoring, as Timberline averages 18 points a game and Vallivue 15.4.

Caldwell at Skyview

Skyview appears to be back on track after two losses to start the season. The Hawks remain in the hunt for a playoff berth and have outscored opponents in four straight wins 157-37, including last week’s shutout of Canyon Ridge. Caldwell’s only 4A SIC win was against Mountain Home 28-26, a team Skyview beat 46-7.

Middleton at Nampa

Nampa earned its first win by beating Mountain Home 28-7 last week, but now hosts a Middleton team that has won four in a row and sits in a tie for first in the 4A SIC. Senior quarterback Kade Wilcox leads the Bulldogs, passing for a team-high 752 yards and five TDs and rushing for 235 yards and three more scores.

New Plymouth at Marsing

New Plymouth took over the top spot in the 2A Western Idaho Conference with a 44-16 win over Nampa Christian. Sophomore quarterback Kylar Harris (749 yards, eight TDs) will lead the Pilgrims against the 2A WIC preseason favorites, who had their unbeaten streak end with a 10-9 loss to Cole Valley on Sept. 21.

Rachel Roberts: 377-6422
