HUNTING

Duck season opens Oct. 13 for most of state

There are no separate waterfowl seasons for North and South Idaho this season as in the past. Fish and Game changed the areas for waterfowl hunting rules and now Area 1, which opens Oct. 6, includes only the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and adjacent areas in Southeast Idaho.

The rest of the state opens Oct. 13 in what’s now known as Area 2. Area boundaries and opening dates are different for light goose hunting, so hunters should check regulations closely.

Most general deer seasons open Oct. 10

Double check rules for open units, and remember a regular deer tag allows hunters to shoot either mule deer or white-tailed deer. A white-tailed deer tag allows hunters to take only a whitetail, but hunt in November during the rut.

FISHING

Lost Valley Reservoir to be treated for perch

The reservoir, located just west of Tamarack on U.S. 95, is open to fish salvage. It is the first step in rehabilitating the reservoir to eliminate perch. It will be treated with rotenone in late October. Fish and Game will stock 15,000 9-inch rainbow trout before Memorial Day. For more information, call Dale Allen at the Fish and Game’s McCall office at 634-8137.
