United Water work in Boise Foothills will restrict some access to recreation areas

Published: October 3, 2012

United Water Idaho is planning to install new water transmission mains on private property in the Boise Foothills, north of Hill Road between 26th and 28th streets.

The project will improve overall water system reliability and maintain compliance with state drinking water distribution standards. It will also bring fire protection to the residents on 28th Street. Recreational access along a path in the area will temporarily be restricted during construction.

A community meeting to discuss the project will take place at 7 p.m., Oct. 4 at the LDS Chapel at 2680 Hill Road.

Work is scheduled to begin Oct. 15 and should take approximately up to six weeks, depending on weather. Once the construction is complete, a contractor will begin environmental restoration, including re-seeding and erosion and sediment control.

The $250,000 project will connect new 8-inch transmission mains to existing mains running north from both 26th and 28th Streets. Then a 12-inch main will link those 8-inch mains together. The entire system will then be linked to existing transmission lines on Spring Mountain Drive. The project’s second phase is scheduled for 2013. In Phase Two, a 12-inch main will be installed to connect Phase One west to an existing main on W. Scenic Drive.
