Median work near Sand Hollow will cause I-84 lane closures starting next week

Published: October 3, 2012

The median of Interstate 84 near Sand Hollow, near Canyon County's western edge a few miles east of Black Canyon, will be leveled in a project that starts Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Idaho Transportation Department announced Wednesday. The project is expected to finish by the end of October.

The speed limit, normally 75 mph in that area, will be reduced to 65 mph on weekdays between mileposts 13 (Black Canyon) and 17 (Sand Hollow). The inside (left) lanes will be closed in each direction while work takes place.

The leveling is a safety improvement to minimize water runoff that created soft-spot hazards in the median. Irvco Asphalt & Gravel Inc., of Fruitland, is the contractor on the $235,000 project.
