Stacia Mers, 8, signed copies of “The Girl Who Had a Big Adventure: Cancer, Chemo and Cupcakes” on Tuesday at the Downtown YMCA in Boise. She said that she wants people to know what to expect if they have cancer.

Stacia was diagnosed with brain cancer in February 2010 and endured 14 months of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, according to her mother, Lori Mers, standing behind her daughter.

“When I finished we had a big party with big pink cupcakes,” Stacia said.

She joined author Jane Freund at the Downtown YMCA to sign books about their experiences with cancer.

The cancer fair was part of the YMCA’s healthy living branch celebrating Livestrong Day and members who are cancer survivors.
