Anthony M. Iniguez is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of trafficking in marijuana after Boise police say they found more than two pounds of pot in a dorm room Sunday night.

Police were sent to a room in a housing complex in the 1500 block of West Cesar Chavez Lane just after 8 p.m. Sunday to investigate a complaint about the pungent smell of unburned marijuana coming from the dorm.

Police also smelled the strong odor of pot when they knocked on the door, according to reports.

A resident of the apartment let officers in, who found 1105 grams of marijuana inside (there are 448 grams in a pound of pot). Police reports do not indicate if there were packaging materials in the dorm but do say that officers determined the pot belonged to the 21-year-old Iniguez, who is from Yellowstone, Mont. and does not live at the apartment, according to jail records.

Iniguez is charged with trafficking instead of possession because of the large amount of marijuana found in the room and other undisclosed evidence that the pot was for sale, officials said Monday.

Four other people in the room at the time were ticketed for frequenting a place where drugs are sold.

Iniguez will make his initial court appearance later Monday afternoon.

The crime of trafficking in marijuana is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
