A wood-framed pole barn in the 4400 block of Pollard Lane in Star, near the River Birch Golf Course, was significantly damaged by fire that broke out before noon Sunday, according to Star Fire Department. The fire was reported at 11:45 a.m.
The two-bay shop had several vehicles and equipment stored in it. Among the items destroyed by the fire were a motorhome, kit car, riding lawn mower and four-wheeler, said Star Fire Deputy Chief Scott Buck, who is investigating the fire. Some of the tools in the building could be salvaged, he said.
Buck said no one was in the shop at the time. Firefighters from Star, Eagle, Meridian and Boise were dispatched to the fire, which was kept from spreading into dry cheatgrass near the building.
"The guys made a very good stop on it. The fire was contained to the building," Buck said.
But the building has significant structural damage the roof had the most damage and is a hazard. Buck said the building would be secured so that no one is hurt.
No one was injured in the fire. Buck is investigating the cause of the fire, which he believes began inside the building.
