Idaho colleges roundup: Two singles advance to finals in Boise State tennis tournament

Marlena Pietzuch (3-0) and Megan LaLone (3-0) will compete in two of the three women’s singles title matches Sunday at the Jack Taylor Classic. Two Boise State doubles teams also advanced to the finals in the Broncos’ home tournament. The final rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Appleton Tennis Center and Timberline High. The first Bronco to compete will be LaLone, who plays at 9:30 a.m. at Appleton.

BOISE STATE CROSS COUNTRY: The men’s and women’s teams earned second-place finishes at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore. The Broncos split squads this weekend, sending half of their runners to Oregon and the other half to race at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The men finished in fifth at the Minnesota meet, while the women took seventh.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO WOMEN’S SOCCER: Boise High grad Sarah Hicks scored the game-winning goal with two minutes to go as the Coyotes defeated Corban 2-1 in Salem, Ore. The C of I improved to 2-4-1 overall, 1-1 in the Cascade Conference.

C OF I MEN’S SOCCER: Corban took a 3-1 win over the C of I in Salem, Ore. The Coyotes dropped to 1-6-2 overall, and 1-4-1 in conference.
