Former Boise State football player J.D. Aylward was beaten last weekend and is fighting for his life in a Seattle hospital, according to KOMO News.

“He’s in bad shape,” his mother, Colleen Aylward, told KOMO.

Aylward was a walk-on wide receiver on the 2006 team that won the Fiesta Bowl. He was a hard worker on the scout special-teams units in practice, earning the scout special teams player of the week award late in the season.

He did not return in 2007.

Aylward played at Sammamish High in Bellevue, Wash.

He was found in a Bellevue street at 4 a.m. PDT Sunday. Police still are seeking answers as to what happened.

“He looked like a dead man, blood out of his head, big pool of blood," Colleen told KOMO. "Hard to look at, but enough to make me want to kill somebody."
