Weiser scrap-metal dealers convicted

Published: September 26, 2012

A Weiser scrap-metal company and its owners stole from an elderly couple who contracted with the business, the Oregon State Police say.

Anthony Montwheeler, 44, and his wife, Anita Harmon-Montwheeler, 36, owned and operated Northwest Materials Management Services, the State Police say. They collected scrap in eastern Oregon and western Washington. An elderly couple contracted with Northwest Materials Management for removal of equipment and metals from their property. The Montwheelers removed about 250 tons of metal for which they paid less than half of its value, stealing more than $10,000, police say.

Anthony Montwheeler was sentenced to 24 months in prison and Anita Harmon-Montwheeler to 16 months.

Other victims have come forward to report similar conduct by the couple, police say. Victims are asked to call Grant County, Ore., Sheriff’s Deputy James Burgett at (541) 575-1131 or the Grant County district attorney’s office at (541) 575-0146.
