DEQ bans open burning, issues orange air quality report

Published: September 22, 2012

BOISE — The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality made the moves Saturday because of the deteriorating air quality in the Treasure Valley. The air quality alert was issued for Sunday but likely will remain in effect through Tuesday, the DEQ said.

The updated forecast Air Quality Index is 135. When the number is between 101 and 150, members of sensitive groups could experience respiratory problems outside.

The ban on open burning of any kind covers Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties. It is in effect until 3 p.m. Monday.
