Capital vs. Timberline Capital has won two straight since its season-opening loss at Eagle and sits in a tie for third in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference with three other teams. Timberline is coming off a 38-13 loss at Mountain View, a team Capital beat 26-19 on Sept. 7. Capital averages the second-most points per game (34.3) in the 5A SIC and Timberline the second fewest (20.7). Both teams feature veteran quarterbacks: Timberline is led by Grant Hruby, above, who has passed for 426 yards and three touchdowns, while Montana commit Makena Simis has paced Capital with 683 yards and eight TDs.

Boise at Rocky Mountain

Rocky looks to maintain its unblemished record and a share of first place in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. Boise could force as much as a five-way tie for second in the conference with a victory. The Braves have not beaten Rocky since the Grizzlies’ inaugural season in 2008.

Vallivue at Centennial

One of these teams will end a three-game losing streak to start the season. Both teams have given up similar numbers on defense, allowing an average of about 32 points per game. Vallivue’s offense, however, ranks fourth in the league in yards per game (365), while Centennial is seventh (330).

Meridian at Eagle

Eagle isn’t likely to take winless Meridian for granted after holding on for a 20-17 win at Centennial last week. Meridian has been in every game it has played this season, but has yet to find a way to finish. Eagle’s offense leads the league with 448 yards per game.

Kuna at Bishop Kelly

Kuna is in the midst of a challenging stretch in which it plays all four teams at the top of the 4A SIC preseason coaches’ poll. After a near upset of Middleton last week, the Kavemen now face a Bishop Kelly team that has not lost and has outscored opponents 131-38.

Caldwell at Mountain Home

One of these teams will get its first 4A SIC win of the season and climb out of the conference cellar. Caldwell won last year’s meeting 28-21 and has already posted a victory this season against 3A Homedale. Mountain Home is mired in a 17-game winless streak dating to the 2010 season.

Nampa at Columbia

Nampa is 0-3 for the first time since 2006, while Columbia is coming off its best season in school history after a trip to the state playoffs. Columbia hopes to win its second straight against the Bulldogs after beating them 35-33 at the Bulldog Bowl last year.

Emmett at Skyview

Emmett suffered its first loss last week at home against Bishop Kelly and now plays a Skyview team that has won two straight since an 0-2 start. The Hawks have won their past two games by a combined score of 70-17.

Parma at Fruitland

This is the 3A Snake River Valley opener for both teams, and it could be a rough one for Parma. The Panthers lost 39-0 at home to the Grizzlies last season, and Fruitland is stronger. The Grizzlies have outscored opponents 152-58.

Homedale at Weiser

Weiser finally got in the win column last week to grab some momentum heading into this conference opener for both teams. But Homedale should be feeling good, too, after earning its first win last week at Vale, Ore.

Melba at Nampa Christian

At 3-1, Melba is off to its best start since 2008, but will have a tough test against Nampa Christian. The Mustangs have not beaten the Trojans since 2004, a string of seven straight losses.

Cole Valley at Marsing

Cole Valley came up three points short in its conference opener against Melba and now faces a Marsing team that was picked to finish first in a 2A WIC preseason coaches’ poll. The Huskies have given up just one touchdown in three games while racking up 69 points.

McCall-Donnelly at New Plymouth

McCall-Donnelly shocked the 2A classification last week with its upset victory against top-ranked and defending 2A state champion Grangeville. The Vandals hope to ride that momentum in their 2A WIC opener against New Plymouth, which won last year’s meeting 26-8.

Notus at Powder Valley, Ore.

Powder Valley, Ore., has played one Idaho team this year, losing 56-18 at Council on Sept. 7. Notus hopes to keep the 1-2 Badgers’ winless streak against Idaho teams intact. Notus — save for an eight-point loss to Wilder — has allowed just eight points while scoring 118.

Rimrock at Murtaugh

Defending District Three champion Rimrock is one of four winless teams in 1A Division I. That may be about to change. Murtaugh — a 1A Division II program — enters with a 1-2 record, and the Red Devils have been outscored 130-46.

Tri-Valley at Garden Valley

Unbeaten Garden Valley begins conference play against a winless Tri-Valley team that fell last week to Council. That doesn’t mean this will be a cakewalk for the Wolverines. The two teams split their meetings last season, with Garden Valley earning a 28-16 win in September before Tri-Valley posted a 28-26 win in late October.

Wilder at Cascade

Cascade only has seven games on its schedule, and got a rude awakening in its opener last week at Salmon River, losing 46-0. The Ramblers have another challenge ahead against Wilder, which sits atop the 1A Division II standings with an unbeaten record.

Horseshoe Bend at Council

Despite an 0-4 record, Horseshoe Bend has made strides in its past two games, scoring multiple touchdowns for the first time this season. Council also had a slow start to the season, but has since won two straight while scoring an average of 57 points per game.

Saturday’s game

Mountain View at Borah

The winner of this matchup maintains at least a share of third place in the 5A SIC, while the loser drops to as low as seventh. Only four teams advance to the state playoffs. Mountain View ranks at the top of the conference in one category: fewest yards allowed (271).
