CAMPING

State parks camping reservations for 2013 to start

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation will take reservations at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1.

Campers using the rolling nine-month reservation window need to be aware of fee changes. All overnight guests will be required to pay the $5 per day, per vehicle entrance fee in addition to camping, cabin and yurt rental fees for stays beginning in January.

People can avoid the fee by buying the new annual $10 Idaho State Parks Passport sticker, which will be available beginning Oct. 1 online, by mail-in renewal, or at any county DMV office. The passport is valid for either one or two years, and will expire concurrently with vehicle registration. Those who paid a vehicle registration for this year can purchase the passport at a county DMV office.

HUNTING

Trap avoidance clinic for dog owners

The Idaho Chukar Foundation will host the event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 22 at Sportsman’s Warehouse at 3797 E. Fairview Ave. in Meridian. The free seminar will cover trap awareness and avoidance, trap types, methods of removing a dog from them, and first aid for dogs. Presenters include Pat Carney, president of the Idaho Trapper Association, Craig White, Furbearer Biologist, Idaho Fish and Game and Dr. Sean Murphy, veterinarian at WestVet Emergency and Specialty Center in Garden City.
