Craigslist ads lead cops to suspected Eagle golf club thief

Published: September 18, 2012

Starting in April, Eagle Police detectives fielded at least 25 reports of stolen golf clubs, according to a statement from the police department. Most of the reports were from people who lost the clubs from unlocked garages near the Banbury Golf Course.

During the course of their investigation, detectives followed Craigslist ads offering golf clubs for sale to Stephan Northness, 31, of Boise, who had several sets of golf clubs in his possession.

According to the police statement, Northness admitted to stealing clubs from Eagle homes and selling them for cash.

Northness, already on felony parole, was jailed Aug. 6 for violating parole as detectives continued their investigation.

On Tuesday, he was charged with five counts of burglary and five counts of grand theft – all felonies. A judge issued a $100,000 bond.
