Boise recovery shows strength nationally

Boise’s economic recovery ranked sixth among the nation’s top 100 metropolitan regions last quarter and put it in the top 20 among recovering areas, according to a new Brookings Institution report.

The region, which includes Ada, Canyon, Gem , Boise and Owyhee counties, came in behind New Orleans Houston, Phoenix, San Jose and Cape Coral-Fort Meyers.

Employment in Boise grew by 1.3 percent during the second quarter of 2012, putting it in the top third of the country’s metros, according to the institution's Mountain Monitor report. In the Intermountain West, Boise and Provo were two of six large metros nationally where employment gains exceeded 1 percent.

Boise’s gross metro product increased 0.05 percent over the first quarter, ahead of both the Intermountain West average and the national average, and earning it a ranking of 22 among the metro areas nationally.
