Boise BLM firefighters called to two grass fires Sunday

Published: September 16, 2012

Firefighters with the Bureau of Land Management were dispatched to a grass fire about 2 miles north of the Elmore County town of Hammett Sunday afternoon, according to a BLM fire information officer. The fire was reported at about 2 p.m.

Hammett is southeast of Mountain Home. Four engines, a water tender and dozer are working the fire — dubbed the Hamm fire — which is estimated to be about 100 acres. No structures are threatened.

At about 2:30 p.m., a grass fire was reported south of Kuna. The fire is on Pleasant Valley Road, about 8 miles south of the prison, according to BLM Fire Information Officer Mallory Eils.

She said the so-called Sandi fire was spreading to the Air Force's Orchard Training Range. Three engines were sent to help Kuna firefighters with the blaze, which is estimated to be about 40 acres and isn't burning very actively.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
