University Drive cone drill: Agencies, contractors working around Boise State football schedule

Published: September 14, 2012

Why so many cones and fences? Two projects are affecting traffic flow on University Drive. The city of Boise and Boise State are connecting several BSU buildings to the city’s geothermal heating system. United Water is upgrading water lines in the same area.

Is this going to cause a mess for Saturday’s game? Traffic restrictions from the geothermal project should be lifted by Friday morning, said Nicole Bandas, Boise State assistant director for transportation and parking. United Water will patch up the street after knocking off work Friday afternoon, spokesman Mark Snider said.

What about next week? The geothermal project will be on hold until Sept. 24 to avoid interfering with the Broncos’ Thursday game, as well as a host of other activities next week. United Water will start work again Monday but will try to work around the football schedule, Snider said.

How long will this go on? The geothermal project is scheduled to wrap up in early October. United Water’s completion date is unclear.
