Marine Sgt. David Haines and his twin brother, Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Haines, haven’t seen each other much over the past five years — they’ve been stationed in two of the same places, but at different times. The 24-year-olds are both on their first combat deployment.

The brothers were briefly reunited at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan this week. Their meeting was reported in an article by Sgt. John Jackson, who snapped the photo at right.

The Haines twins were born in Burley and graduated from high school in Moscow in 2006. David, on the left, joined the Marines in 2007, and Michael joined the Navy soon after. The twins are competitive but certainly have each other’s backs, their dad says.

‘We are sure proud parents ... They serve well, with honor,’ Douglas Haines wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday. The retired University of Idaho professor and his wife, Nicole, live in Garden Valley. Another son, Ben, is serving in the Army.
