New QB shouldn’t be blamed for loss

All the complaining about the Broncos’ new QB is pathetic. The first lesson “fans” need to learn is that a QB can only run the plays given to him by the offensive coordinator during the game.

The real disappointment in the first game was with the new O.C.’s complete inability to call less-than-expected plays. If any position needs to be changed, it’s that one.

How many times does a running back need to hit the middle of the defensive line for minus one yard before you try something different?

Fans represented school, state well in Michigan

I recently had the opportunity to accompany a group of Boise State fans — as their charter bus driver — during their visit to Michigan State.

It was a privilege to be in their company for the duration of their six-day stay. A total class act by what I am sure is representative, as a whole, of the enthusiastic fans of BSU, and an accurate reflection of the state of Idaho as well. They were gracious, fun and cordial, and I left them having made 46 new cherished friends.

I tip my Spartan hat to all involved and wish your Broncos much success in the future. With gratitude.

“IN THE BLEACHERS”

Reader doesn’t find humor in sports cartoon

I have put off writing this letter for many months hoping that the cartoon “In the Bleachers” would someday be funny. The humor is just not there for me.

If I were in charge of the Sports section, I would cancel the agreement with the distributor of this supposed cartoon as soon as possible. I would use the space for advertising for auto dealers. Call it “In the Garage.”

Of course, it would be premium ad space and I would bet it would bring in enough revenue to pay for your salary for a year. Your boss would probably give you a hefty bonus to boot.

No charge for the advice.
