Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State volleyball team wins own invitational

The Broncos extended their winning streak to five matches as they defeated UC Irvine 25-16, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21 on Saturday to win the Boise State Invitational with a 3-0 record. Boise State (6-4) was led by Alyssa Gammel (20 kills) and Liz Harden (17 kills) against the Anteaters. Harden was named tournament MVP, and Gammel and Kersti Whitney made the all-tournament team.

ROGER CURRAN INVITATIONAL: The Boise State men’s and women’s cross country teams won team titles at Nampa’s West Park. College of Idaho’s Greg Montgomery won the men’s 6-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 29.90 seconds, while unattached runner Emma Bates won the women’s title in 14:16.41.

IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: The Vandals (2-6) lost 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 to No. 3 UCLA (4-1) late Friday night at the Verizon Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: Jessica Peacock had 14 kills as the Coyotes (7-4, 4-0 CCC) beat Corban University, 25-16, 25-15, 25-22 on Saturday at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center in Caldwell.

NNU, C OF I WOMEN’S SOCCER: Whitney Wood scored the game-winner in OT to lead the Crusaders (3-1-0) to a 2-1 win over the Coyotes (0-3-0) in Nampa.

NNU MEN’S SOCCER: The Crusaders edged Academy of Art University 1-0 in San Francisco. Jon Curry scored for NNU (1-2-1).

NNU VOLLEYBALL: The Crusaders split a pair of matches at the Route 92 Showdown in Hayward, Calif. NNU (6-3) lost 3-0 to Fresno Pacific before rebounding for a 3-2 victory against Cal State East Bay.
