Chrystal R. Phillips is charged with a felony count of delivery of a controlled substance after Boise police say they found a half pound of marijuana in her purse during a traffic stop on the Bench earlier this month.

A police officer pulled over the car the 19-year-old Phillips was in Aug. 1 near the Overland Road/South Pacific Street intersection after watching the driver swerve over the fog line — the white line painted on the right side of the road.

The officer detected a strong odor of unburnt marijuana coming from inside the car, so they called for a K-9 police dog, who detected drugs inside the car. That’s when police found 232 grams of pot in a bag inside Phillips' purse, according to reports.

Police charged Phillips with delivery instead of possession after compiling some undisclosed evidence that the pot was meant for sale.

It is also unclear why police did not arrest Phillips on Aug. 1. Ada County prosecutors issued a warrant for Phillips Aug.30, and she turned herself in at Ada County Jail Tuesday night, where she was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

Phillips is scheduled to make her initial court appearance Sept. 11.

The crime of marijuana trafficking is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
