Meridian’s R&R Public House will close Sept. 8

Published: September 4, 2012

The R&R Public House opened just about a year ago with a menu of eclectic pub fare and an awesome selection of regional microbrews and imports that included hard-to-find German and Belgian bottles, broken down into geographic areas such as East Flanders and Antwerp and Hainout provinces.

Now, the beer will stop flowing on Saturday, says co-owner Shane Randel, who made the move to Meridian after helping establish Downtown’s Front Door as a beer lover’s haven.

R & R opened at 1626 S. Wells Ave., Meridian, Randel ran the restaurant with his wife, Kari, and partners, Keith Moreno and Alex Diffendaffer.

“We wanted to make a place in Meridian that could rival anything Downtown,” Randel says. “I think we did that, so I’m not really sure what went wrong.”

But they plan to go out with a bang. They’ll be open 11 a.m. to close throughout the week. Then on Sept. 8, they’ll serve a special menu of their top sellers from 4 to 9 p.m. for a reservation only dinner, with music from jazz pianist Jack Holland and special guests. Make your reservation by calling 258-2080.

What’s next for the Randels might be a move back to Downtown Boise to open a small brew pub, he says.

“We’re already writing another business plan,” he says.
