Nampa Community Work Center inmate who escaped Friday arrested in Ontario

Published: September 4, 2012

A Nampa Community Work Center inmate who walked away from his job Friday will likely be charged with a felony escape after he is extradited back to Idaho.

The 45-year-old Herbert Glenn Harrod is being held in the Malheur County Jail after Ontario police found Harrod lying on the ground in the 1000 block of Southeast 9th Avenue at 9:25 p.m. Monday, according to Idaho Department of Correction reports.

Harrod had been reported missing at 10:30 a.m. Friday when he walked away from his job at the Idaho State Hospital in Nampa. Police had been searching for him since then. IDOC reports do not say why Harrod was in Ontario or why he was lying on the ground when police found him late Monday.

Harrod, who was convicted in 2010 of possession of a controlled substance, was eligible for parole in 2015, with his full sentence coming to an end in 2017, IDOC officials said.

Harrod had been held at the Nampa Community Work Center since May 17. That facility is designed to help inmates transition from a life of incarceration.
