Jim Core has been the head official for three preseason games so far, including the Redskins-Bucs game Wednesday night in Landover, Md.

Core is the activities director at Sawtooth Middle School in Meridian. He will continue to work at the school, and will use “leave days’’ when he needs to travel for a game, Sawtooth Principal Kevin Leishman said.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for him,’’ said Leishman, who has officiated small-college games with Core in the Frontier League for five seasons. “He will take a day off here and there, it’s not a conflict.’’

Neil Peterson, the supervisor of officials for the Frontier Conference, said Core “is a competent official. He does a great job in our conference.’’

Core also previously officiated Boise Burn games in arenafootball2.
