HUNTING AND FISHING

Fall seasons open for fish, birds and big game

If you’re a hunter and angler, your weekends just got a lot busier. Here’s the lineup of opening dates. Make sure you double check Fish and Game rules booklets or fishandgame.idaho.gov because not all hunting units are open.

• Wolf, any weapon.

• Forest grouse.

• Black bear (Check F&G rules for open units.)

Sept. 1

• Fall steelhead on the Snake, Salmon and Little Salmon rivers.

• Fall chinook salmon on the Snake River and the lower Clearwater River.

Sept. 15

BOATING, FISHING

Cuts in Snake flows could affect anglers, boaters

Lower flows in the Snake River below Hells Canyon Dam could affect rafting and jet boating, Idaho Power reported.

Public boat ramps are expected to be available at Brownlee Reservoir through the Labor Day weekend, but water going into Brownlee Reservoir is expected to decrease over the next two weeks due to a critically dry summer throughout the state and the completion of fish-augmentation releases from the Upper Snake, Payette and Boise basins.
