Amber Alert called off; teen boy found at Boise area home

Published: August 29, 2012

Police cancelled an Amber Alert for a 17-year-old Boise boy when they found him at a Boise-area home Thursday morning.

Police say it appears Lee (Leroy) R. Center is not injured. The boy was declared to be in imminent danger and will be put in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

Boise police found the teen at the home of his father, Verdell “Ric” Rip Daniel, in the 2200 block of North Liberty Street Thursday morning.

Police said Wednesday the 44-year-old Daniel is a suspect in a recent aggravated battery of the teen. Daniel, who was with the teen at the house, was not charged with that crime Thursday after being interviewed by police. Officers are now checking into the story of the person who reported the battery in the first place.

The entire case is still under investigation, including the "elusive nature of (Daniel's) actions," according to Boise police reports.

Lee Center was last seen Monday at a house in the 2200 block of Liberty Street in Boise, police said.

Information provided to police indicated Center suffered "serious bodily injury" at the hands of his father, who hid the teen for two days and cut off communication with others, according to information released as part of an Amber Alert. Police were notified Tuesday.
