ISP: Nampa man who died of self-inflicted gunshot wound after standoff identified

Published: August 27, 2012

The body of Andrew Frank, 32, was found Saturday night inside the bedroom of an apartment in the 2300 block of Sunnybrook Drive in Nampa.

Idaho State Police say Frank was involved in a five-hour standoff at the Brookside Apartments Saturday with Nampa police.

Police were called to the apartments at about 2 p.m. Saturday, following up on a report that a man had fired shots into an adjacent apartment. No one was injured.

Police say when they arrived, a man fired at police, and they returned fire. No officers were injured.

It was unclear in the immediate aftermath how Frank died. His body was recovered after the Nampa Police Tactical Response Team and the Canyon County Sheriff's SWAT team made forced entry into the apartment.

Canyon County Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris said Monday that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The Idaho State Police is the lead agency investigating the incident. ISP is being assisted by Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force, Nampa Police Department, Canyon County Sheriff's Office, Caldwell Police Department, Owyhee County Sheriff's office and the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
