4A SIC cross country preview: No clear favorites in title race

2011 state team champion: Bishop Kelly

2011 individual state champion: Emily Nist (graduated)

2011 District Three team Champion: Bishop Kelly

2011 individual district champion: Nist

Teams to watch:

• Senior Kim Rudeen (32nd) is the only returning varsity runner for BK, which swept the district and state titles.

• Emmett finished sixth at districts last year and returns five runners led by juniors Chandra Smith and Kallie Young.

• Nampa returns all seven varsity runners from a year ago.

• Skyview placed fourth at state last year and returns four.

• Sophomore Sierra Manzer (2nd) and junior Anysja Manzer (60th) have transferred from Kuna and will compete for Melba.

Other runners to watch: Skyview’s Jocelyn Baker (11th) and Elaina Gillepsie (injured in 2011, 19th in 2010); Columbia’s Kelsea Donahue (20th) and Mikayla Hunter; Mountain Home’s Aerial Groene (39th) and Arisha Karren (44th); Kuna’s Madie Cook (65th).

4A boys

2011 state team champion: Pocatello

2011 individual state champion: Pocatello’s Elijah Armstrong (returning)

2011 District Three team champion: Bishop Kelly

2011 individual district champion: Alberto De Los Reyes (returning)

Teams to watch:

• Eric Albertson and Tom Parry will lead Bishop Kelly, after many runners from the defending district champion graduated.

• Kuna seniors Andrew Burgess (14th at state) and Michael Cunningham (injured in 2011) will likely be the top runners for last season’s district runner-up.

• Columbia returns all seven runners, including two top-35 runners from state (Levi Watson, Erik Barfuss).

• Nampa returns five varsity runners.

Other runners to watch: Caldwell’s De Los Reyes (7th); Columbia’s Jason Raymond (41st), Kuna’s Brock Thompson (44th); Skyview’s Zach Davlin (63rd).
