Rodney Eugene Allen is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of trafficking in marijuana after Garden City Police say they found over an ounce of marijuana in several different bags packaged for sale during a traffic stop Tuesday night.

Jail records show the 53-year-old Allen is from Stockton, Calif. Garden City Police say Allen is in town working at the Western Idaho Fair.

A Garden City officer pulled over Allen’s car just after 9:30 p.m. on Chinden Boulevard, near 50th Street, for speeding and smelled a strong odor of pot coming from inside, according to reports.

A K-9 police dog was brought in and officers found the pot inside the car. Police reports indicate two of the bags had about 22 grams of marijuana inside each, and there were several more of smaller amount but the weight of those was not listed. Police also seized more than $400 in cash. Allen is charged with trafficking because the packaging indicate the drugs were for sale, officials said.

Allen will make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The crime of trafficking marijuana is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
