Idaho colleges roundup: Local club soccer coach lands assistant job at Boise State

The Broncos promoted Eric Simmonsen from his volunteer assistant position. This will be his fourth season working with head coach Steve Lucas. Simmonsen is the technical director for the local FC Nova club, a role that he will keep after Tuesday’s promotion.

BSU SWIMMING: Incoming freshman Taylor Padington will represent her native Canada in the Junior Pan Pacific Championships this week in Pearl City, Hawaii. Padinton will compete in the 400-meter freestyle against the top 18-and-younger swimmers from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and the United States.

SOCCER: Northwest Nazarene and the College of Idaho played to a 1-1 tie in an exhibition match in Nampa. Joseph Bolin scored for the Coyotes, while Daniel Clark tallied for the Crusaders.

NNU VOLLEYBALL: The Crusaders were picked fifth in the GNAC preseason coaches’ poll. Western Washington (72 points), Western Oregon (71) and Alaska Anchorage (70) were the top three in the 10-team conference. NNU had 47 points.
