Boise Hole will be filled Sunday

Published: August 19, 2012

Admit it. We had our doubts. “We’re often asked are we going to get further than the last guy,” said Tommy Ahlquist, the Meridian chief operating officer of developer Gardner Co., which is building a $76 million, 18-story Eighth & Main building. “For the first time on Sunday, we’re going to be able to say yes.”

Concrete reality: Between 2 and 4 a.m. Sunday, 130 truckloads of concrete were to be delivered — that’s 1,300 cubic yards to cover the rebar.

More to come: A colossal crane will be delivered Sept. 15, and vertical construction will begin. “You’ll see things actually coming out of the hole,” Ahlquist said. The building should be complete in January 2014.

What will be there? All but four of the floors are spoken for. Zions Bank is the anchor tenant; Ruth’s Chris Steak House will be there. Tenants include law and architect firms, title companies and the Idaho Technology Council.
