Since he arrived six seasons ago, Boise Philharmonic music director Robert Franz has wanted to create a fun, casual, pops musical experience for his orchestra. And here it is done right. Picnic at the Pops dishes up a lively variety of popular music in a park-like setting a la the Idaho Shakespeare Festival or the Ravina Festival in Illinois. So bring food (but not alcohol, which will be sold on site) and enjoy the show. This first installment of the three features the music of the Gershwins from Porgy and Bess to An American in Paris with vocalists Michele and Jason Detwiler.
