Makin’ tracks: Outdoor day events and seminars on elk-calling and e-collars for gun dogs

Cabela’s is kicking off its premier hunting event, Fall Great Outdoor Days, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18 and 19, at the Boise store, 8109 Franklin Road.

Free hunting seminars and demonstrations will be given by industry experts.

Cabela’s staff also is encouraging parents to bring their kids to catch their first fish in the kids’ fishing pond. The pond will be loaded with trout and is scheduled to be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days.

The Idaho Sierra Club is presenting Kokanee Outdoor Day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at John Brogan Park in Idaho City.

The event features a road trip up Idaho 21 with four interpretive stops, describing kokanee salmon in Mores Creek and other wildlife, on the way to a festival in Idaho City.

After the road trip, participants can stop at John Brogan Park for music, booths, food and free activities for the kids.

Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, call 384-1023.

Bugling Bull Game Calls pro - staffer Lance Sellers will give an elk- calling seminar, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Sportsman’s Warehouse, 3797 E. Fairview Ave. in Meridian.

Sellers will cover everything from different types of calls to camo patterns and scent control.

The seminar is free and will be held in the back of the store. Call 884-3000 for information.

The store is also featuring a free gun-dog electronic e-collar training clinic from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25.

Bob Farris, nationally known NAVHDA judge and trainer with Cedarwoods Gun Dogs, will conduct the seminar. This is a train-the-trainer program without dogs.
