Tackle Tip: Hull’s Cranefly

Published: August 16, 2012

FLY PROVIDED BY IDAHO ANGLER

Tip: If you’ve never seen a cranefly, they’re an interesting bug. They fly at water level and sometimes throw a slight wake. That’s what the disc on the front of this fly is meant to recreate. It’s going to add lots of action to the fly. Think of it as like a steelhead waking fly, or even a plug. Will it work? Actual results may vary, but sometimes fish have seen the same flies presented in the same manner all summer long and seeing something different might trigger a strike. If nothing else, it’s probably a fun fly to fish.
