Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State picked seventh in MW volleyball poll

Colorado State is projected to win a second straight Mountain West championship, based on a preseason vote of the league’s nine coaches. The Rams received 80 points (eight of nine first-place votes), followed by San Diego State (69), Wyoming (66, one first-place vote), Fresno State (45), UNLV (42), New Mexico (40), Boise State (36), Nevada (16) and Air Force (11). The Broncos open Aug. 24 at the Northwest Challenge in Seattle.

WAC VOLLEYBALL: The preseason poll starts with New Mexico State (79 points, eight first-place votes), while Idaho (67, two first-place votes), Texas-San Antonio (58), Utah State (57) and Texas State (52) round out the top five. Idaho senior middle blocker Alex Sele and junior outside hitter Allison (Walker) Baker were selected to the preseason All-WAC team.

ALASKA ANCHORAGE: Ryan McCarthy, an assistant coach, interim head coach and associate coach at Northwest Nazarene since 2007, is the Seawolves’ new women’s basketball coach. He is a 2006 graduate of NNU.
