Published: August 13, 2012

The Boise Hawks wasted a couple of big performances at the plate Sunday night as they fell to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 10-9 at Memorial Stadium.

Outfielder Xavier Batista had a grand slam and a solo homer in the loss. It was the fourth time in a week that a Hawks player had two home runs in a game.

Catcher Willson Contreras also had a big night at the plate for Boise, as he had a home run and a double and drove in four runs.

Hawks shortstop Marco Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 17 games, but first baseman Dan Vogelbach’s 11-game hitting streak ended as he struck out three times.

Boise reliever James Pugliese had a rough outing: He allowed five earned runs on eight hits, including a home run, in less than three innings of work.
