Symmonds wins heat, moves to 800-meter semifinals at Olympics

Boise native and Bishop Kelly High graduate Nick Symmonds advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 800-meter run at the London Olympics on Monday morning.

Symmonds, 28, won his heat in 1 minute, 45.91 seconds. Symmonds will run in the second of three semifinals Tuesday (12:55 p.m. MDT) alongside world-record holder and heavy gold medal favorite David Rudisha from Kenya.

Eight of the 24 runners will advance to Thursday’s final (1 p.m. Monday). Symmonds failed to advance through the semifinals in the 2008 Beijing Games.
