The Boise National Forest, the Idaho Master Naturalists will host a free nature walk at the Shafer Butte picnic area (Mores Mountain trailhead) near Bogus Basin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.
The outing will be about 2 hours long on moderately steep terrain at about 6,800 feet elevation. The walk is open to the public and kids are welcome. Register by calling the Mountain Home Ranger District at 587-7961.
The Council Ranger District closed Forest Service Road 172, East Fork Weiser River Road to repair the flood damage. The road will be closed through Aug. 18.
The closure will begin at the junction of Forest Road 172 and Bench Creek Road 181 to Roads junction with Dewey Creek Road 487.
A detour around the closure area is possible via Bench Creek Road 181, Dry Beaver Road 149, or Joker Creek Road 486.

The Idaho Whitewater Associations annual Safety Saturday will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 18, at Kellys Whitewater Park in Cascade.
Stations will be set up at the park for raft flipping, throw bag practice and Z-drag rigging.
A barbecue and raffle will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Its free, but release forms must be signed by all participants and a life jacket is required for water activities.
Registration is open for a two-day mountain bike ride on the 85-mile Weiser River Trail Oct. 6-7.
Friends of the Weiser River Trail will host the October Trek, which will go from the upper West Pine trailhead west of New Meadows to Weiser. The trail goes through forest and agriculture lands on a converted railroad bed that is mostly gravel.
The ride is $150, which includes a shuttle, all meals and camping at Mundo Idaho Hot Springs north of Cambridge. Friends of the trail members get a $12 discount.
Mountain bikers will cover 40-plus miles each day. Registration is at bluecirclesports.com.
