Gas prices in Boise fall below national average

Published: July 30, 2012

A per-gallon slide of nearly 15 cents over the past month has brought Boise's average gas prices in line with prices nationwide, which increased more than 12 cents per gallon during the same period, according to information reported by GasBuddy.

Boise's average price now stands at $3.47 per gallon. The nationwide average is $3.50 per gallon according to GasBuddy.

Numbers compiled by AAA Idaho reflected a nearly identical trend, though the group's analysis put Boise prices in a dead tie with nationwide prices at $3.49 per gallon, spokesman Dave Carlson said.

Compared to this time last year, gas prices both nationwide and in Boise have decreased about 20 cents per gallon.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan predicted that gas prices will rise in the coming week due to higher commodities prices.

Carlson said instability in Syria and continuing or worsening debt fears in Europe, while impossible to predict, are scenarios that could push oil and gas prices higher.

He said driver demand for gasoline is about 5 percent lower this year than last. That's unlikely to change, Carlson said, even if gas prices fall significantly.
