Close to 100 competitors young and old came out Friday to catch pigs in a muddy arena at the annual Hogs-N-Mud Wrestling competition at the Canyon County Fair in Caldwell. From left, Trevor Gentry, 11, and Tom Dale, 9, and Dylan Hart, 8, were one of the first to get dirty in the event. Each competitor had 1 minute to try and catch the pigs.

Celebrate Healthy Living Day with the new Barnyard Dash, yoga and a wellness expo.

The Dash, new this year, is an obstacle course with an agricultural theme in keeping with the county’s farm-friendly fair.

The 3-mile race, sponsored by West Valley Medical Center, kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, a couple of hours before the carnival midway and other fair attractions open.

The fitness-focused Dash starts in Simplot Stadium with a few stair-climbs followed by a run through the carnival area, where participants will encounter hay-bale climbs, jumps and more. The course continues to the Griffiths Parkway softball fields, which will feature abundant obstacles and challenges. Racers then return through the carnival and slide down a giant slide to the finish line.

The race is designed for all fitness levels. Registration at the gate costs $35, and fairgrounds Gate 6 will open at 8:30 a.m. for participants and spectators.

In keeping with Healthy Living Day, the Barnyard Dash will be preceded and followed by yoga sessions provided by Lululemon Athletica. Those sessions are set for 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

West Valley Medical Center will offer a health and wellness expo at Simplot Stadium from noon to 3 p.m., and dance competitions will be offered at the Farm Bureau Contest Corral near the livestock barns. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m., and competitions are limited to the first 20 entrants in each category. The Hip Hop dance competition starts at 3 p.m., and Country Swing competition starts at 6 p.m.

Saturday night’s concert on the Main Stage features country singer Jo Dee Messina and guest Hunter Hayes.
