Hayden Tuma won the 138-pound Greco-Roman junior division (ages 17-19) title at the USA Cadet & Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D., on July 14-21, an event that attracted 3,828 wrestlers from 47 states. Tuma also placed third in freestyle. In May, he earned a spot on the FILA Cadet Greco-Roman World Team for the second straight year and will represent the U.S. at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Aug. 21-27.
Other Treasure Valley wrestlers from the North Dakota nationals: Jared Johnshoy, Melba, fourth, 145-pound Greco-Roman junior division; Austin Dewey, Centennial, fifth, 160-pound Freestyle junior division; Casey Cobb, Kuna, fifth, 106-pound Greco-Roman junior division; DeVaughn Sapien, Boise, fifth, 100 pound Greco-Roman and Freestyle, cadet division (ages 15-16); and Katherine Renz, Homedale, eighth, 124-pound Freestyle cadet girls division.
VOLLEYBALL: Lisa Pom-Arleau, a graduate of Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene, is the new head coach at Boise High. She served as head coach at Redmond High in Oregon (2006-2012), Nampa High (2000-06) and was a junior varsity coach at Borah (1999-2000). Pom-Arleau replaces Rachel Ryden.
