Michael S. Mausling is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony burglary charge after Boise police say they caught him riding a bike while dragging another bike he just stole from an open garage in the North End Wednesday morning.

The 44-year-old Mausling, who police characterize as a transient, is also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. Police say Mausling tried to jump over a fence to avoid being caught and then struggled with officers as they tried to arrest him.

The arrest occurred shortly after a patrol officer driving in the area of 27th and Heron streets around 3 a.m. saw a man riding a bike, while holding another bike, who did not have the required lighting for riding at night. Police say Mausling let go of the other bike when he saw the officer and began riding through a nearby field in an attempt to get away.

Police later figured out the bike, valued at about $200, was taken from an open garage nearby.

Mausling was then arrested and booked into jail. Police officials say at this point there is no evidence linking Mausling to other bike thefts but say the case is still under investigation.

Mausling will make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The crime of burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
