Seniors should be on guard for a possible recurrence of a scam that involves a caller asking for personal and bank account information from Medicare beneficiaries, the Idaho Department of Insurance said.
A woman in Preston got a call from someone who said that a new Medicare card was being sent and that her bank account information must be verified, then read her bank account number and routing number to her. It is possible that the caller got the woman's information from mail taken from her mailbox, the department said.
The department said it could be an isolated incident but said Medicare beneficiaries should know that Medicare is not sending out new cards, nor should beneficiaries be charged for replacement cards.
Call (800) 247-4422 to report suspicious calls or get Medicare information from a representative of the department.
