PRESTON — Friends and family remembered Spc. Cody O. Moosman at a funeral Friday as hard-working, fun-loving, fearless — and as a baker of pies.

Moosman was killed in Afghanistan July 3 by small-arms fire. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of specialist.

His body was flown Wednesday from Dover Air Force Base to Logan, Utah, and then driven to Idaho.

“I was humbled at the number of people who lined the roads all the way to Preston to show respect for Cody and his family,” LDS North Stake President Richard Swainston said Friday.

Cody Moosman’s father, Dennis Moosman, thanked the military personnel and citizens who turned out along local roads to welcome home his son.

Among those who attended Friday’s funeral were Gov. Butch Otter and his wife, Lori.

Lola Leon, a military friend, said Moosman believed in serving his country, did his job and never complained.

“He was an amazing soldier,” Leon said. “He lived a good life and to the fullest.”

Moosman’s brothers, Timothy and Doyle, remembered their baby brother as always laughing and smiling — and fearless. He bragged about his pies. He served meals to the elderly at the county senior center, worked at Franklin County Grain Growers, Bear River Publishing and a farm east of Preston. There he hauled hay and became a marksman shooting at pigeons. “We are honored to be his brothers,” they said.
