Arson suspected in Caldwell fires

Published: July 13, 2012

Caldwell fire officials are investigating a series of fires started Friday afternoon along Cleveland Boulevard between 43rd and 45th avenues and at 34th Avenue.

“We are treating them as suspicious fires,” said Caldwell Fire Department Battalion Chief Bud Bryson.

Bryson said witnesses reported seeing someone on a bicycle start the fires, along the sidewalk.

A segment of Cleveland Boulevard was closed while crews battled the blazes, which were reported about 3 p.m.

Parma, Notus, Middleton, Nampa, Eagle and Ada County fire crews assisted Caldwell in putting the fires out, Bryson said.

“We were out resources,” Bryson said. “Middleton got there just in time to save a residence.”

The fire destroyed a couple outbuildings, but crews were able to save three structures.

No one was injured.

“It was a crazy afternoon, with the wind and the red flag warning,” Bryson said.
