Police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened when a 70-year-old female driver hit a 10-year-old boy on his bike with her SUV in a residential Meridian neighborhood Thursday morning. The boy died hours later at a local hospital from injuries he suffered in the crash, police said.
The fatal collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Police have not yet publicly identified the boy or the driver of the SUV.
Meridian police say the boy was on his bike in a crosswalk on Goddard Creek Way, near Horse Loop Circle, in the Lochsa Falls subdivision near the Chinden Boulevard/10 Mile Road intersection, when he was hit by a woman who was driving a Nissan Xtera. The boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
Paramedics who arrived moments later took the boy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Thursday afternoon, police said.
No charges had been filed in connection with the crash as of 2 p.m. Thursday. The boy lived in the neighborhood. It is unclear where he was going and police reports do not indicate whether he was with anyone else at the time of the crash.
