'Team Yotes' wins Statesman chalk-art festival, part of daylong Boise Fourth of July celebration

Team Yotes won the People's Choice award at theChalk Art Festival at Ann Morrison Park Wednesday.

A team from the College of Idaho won the People's Choice Award in the Idaho Statesman Chalk Art Festival Wednesday with a colorful celebration of the 2012 London Olympics.

The "Team Yotes:" Olympic-themed creation was selected as the favorite by visitors to the festival at Ann Morrison Park. The artists finished working at 4 p.m., after which the votes were tallied.

A panel of judges selected winners from the youth and adult entries. Those winners are:

YOUTH CATEGORY:

1st Place Youth — Tara Kleffnerfor, with a chalk creation of eating ice cream.

2nd Place Youth — Cindy Bordenkircher, for the Avengers.

3rd Place Youth — Daniel Anecito, for a work showing a broken vintage TV set.

ADULT CATEGORY:

1st Place Adult — Danielle Mierzwa, for a wolf head.

2nd Place Adult — Alyssa Cooper, for Day of the Dead.

3rd Place Adult — Rachel Dunn, for a peacock and butterfly.

The July 4 festivities continue today in Ann Morrison Park. Singer Desirae Bronson performs at 6 p.m. followed by Pilot Error at 8.

The daylong Fourth of July celebration ends with fireworks at 10:15 p.m. The fireworks are being simulcast by KIVI-TV Today's 6 and K-Hits 107.1.

The celebration's primary sponsors are the Statesman, KIVI-TV, K-Hits 107.1 and the city of Boise.
