Firefighters were called to a grass fire in an East Boise subdivision just before 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was in a field near East Lake Forest Drive and South Impatiens Place, according to Boise Fire Battalion Chief J.D. Ellis. The field has walking paths through it, and barriers preventing vehicles from entering. A resident pulled up the barricades preventing access by emergency vehicles.
"Once we were able to get access, we got quick control of it," Ellis said. They had it controlled within 15 minutes, and stayed on scene for two hours to mop up.
The field is surrounded by houses, but they were never threatened, he said.
About 1/8th of an acre in the roughly 50-acre field burned, Ellis said. The fire did damage some fences.
Residents said they saw kids playing with fireworks in the area before the fire, so Ellis called for investigators. Their findings have not yet been released.
