Fire crews with Star, Eagle, and Nampa were able to knock down a 15-acre grass fire Monday afternoon near Can/Ada Road before it could spread to nearby homes and a barn full of hay.
The fire was reported to Ada County dispatchers around 1 p.m. Monday at a residence 12222 West Band Drive, which is several miles north of State Street. Fire crews arrived to find an active blaze and called for mutual aid.
The fire came closest to a hay barn but was also in the vicinity of several homes in the rural subdivision. Crews were able to knock down the fire by 1:45 p.m. but are still putting out hotspots.
Fire officials say they have not figured out what ignited the blaze. Check back at Idahostatesman later for updates
